Acne Prevention Tips

Is having acne getting you down? But if you knew there were ways to prevent it from appearing, would you take the time and do the steps, instead of looking for treatment? Personally I would do it. But don’t worry if you do already have acne. Just carry on reading this and it will help you to keep it from getting worse and making it much hard for you to get rid of it.

Firstly, I would say to you (ladies) to make sure to remove any stale make-up as this can cause acne because it blocks up your pores and then acne will develop. Gently wash your face with a clean cloth before going to bed to prevent acne from developing.

Secondly, you should improve your health by eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, which provides you with plenty of vitamins. Also drink plenty of water because it helps to moisturize your skin (you should be drinking around 8 glasses a day).

Most of all, no touching or picking your face (I know you will feel like doing this, because I’ve been there… but try to resist the urge), you will only make it worse. Touching or picking your face only irritates acne, which causes the infection to spread over your face (which isn’t something you want).

Exercise will not only improve your general health, but it will also help flush out the bad toxins in your body. These toxins can give you acne.

Avoid tanning. (Fake tans as well). Although some sunlight is good for your skin, if you have acne, it can make it worse (because the sun will be removing moisture from your skin.

One thing that can lead to acne is when your skin produces too much sebum. You can reduce sebum production by taking Vitamin A supplements. Another supplement which works well is Zinc.

The best way to cure acne is to prevent it (or at least stop it from getting worse).

I hope you found this useful.

Top 7 Acne Skincare Tips

Getting rid of acne is a lot like taking care of any health problem. Many of the best tips for skin care are simply common sense advice for good general health. Read on for some suggestions that could make you feel better and clear your skin up, too.

1. Acne is exacerbated by stress, so anything that reduces stress can help you get rid of acne. Stress management includes getting plenty of good quality sleep, eating a healthy diet, and exercising. Exercise in particular is practically a cure-all for everything, and it is especially beneficial in the treatment of stress. Try for 30 minutes of heart-healthy aerobic exercise three or more times every week. But use a gentle touch when you shower afterwards. There's no need to scrub your irritated skin.

2. Treat acne with natural essential oils, such as rosemary, bergamot, lavender, or tea tree oil. Look for products that contain modest amounts of essential oils, or dilute your own tea tree oil with a mild skin-friendly oil like jojoba or almond oil. Apply this combination to your blemishes with a cotton ball or swab. There are few things in nature as healing as natural essential oils.

3. Use yogurt or acidophilus in the diet if you have been taking antibiotics for your acne. Antibiotics kill friendly bacteria in the digestive tract, which causes other problems, like constipation. Eliminating the toxins and wastes from your body is essential to controlling acne. It's important to keep those friendly bacteria alive and well.

4. Don't pick or squeeze your pimples. Picking can cause scars, and can increase the amount of bacteria in the pores, resulting in more acne.

5. Be careful about reintroducing bacteria to the face after you have cleansed it. One way you can do this is by using the same wash cloth or cotton balls more than once. Wash your wash cloths and get a clean one each time you cleanse your face, and throw those used cotton balls away. Don't put your hands on your face, either, because your hands are usually loaded with bacteria unless you just washed them.

6. Cleanse your face every day with a good quality product. You might have to try several brands before you find the one that is right for you. Everyone is an individual, and some people need more moisturizing than others. If your skin is sensitive, look for gentle natural products that are not scented.

7. Don't put off treating acne. The scars that are left by severe acne are often more heartbreaking than the zits themselves were. Act quickly to reduce the likelihood of your acne leaving scars on your face. The longer you wait, the worse it will get. Prevention is always preferable to treatment.

Acne is not an incurable condition. While it is not accurate to say that you will outgrow it, in many cases it does lessen in severity as a person gets into their twenties. Don't let your acne keep you from having a good self image if at all possible. Think positive, take action to treat acne, and look forward to the day when those bumps will be a thing of the past.

Truth and Myths on Acne Treatments

When it comes to acne, myths abound. Perhaps this is because this problem shows up just at the wrong time for the wrong people. What could have worse timing than a zit, anyway, which shows up just as a young person is preparing for a special dance or has just met someone interesting? Truly, life isn't fair! But be that as it may, just how much do you know about acne? Here are some commonly held beliefs about acne, but are they truths or myths?

1. Eating chocolate causes acne. Myth. No scientific evidence has ever linked acne with anything in the diet. Fried foods have long been spurned by people attempting to get rid of zits, and it is certainly better for the health to give them up. But they have never been proved to cause acne to get worse.

2. There is no cure for acne. True. Acne can't be cured, but it can be prevented. Not only can you lessen its severity by using the right products, you can also reduce the likelihood of getting it by taking good care of yourself.

3. Acne is a sign that a person is dirty. Myth. Dirt has nothing to do with a person getting acne. It is caused by the build up of natural skin oils, dead skin cells, and bacteria withing a pore of the skin. Proper cleansing is an important part of prevention, but for some people, acne happens in spite of a rigorous routine of face washing.

4. If you have acne, you should get out in the sun more. Myth. The sun is simply not good for skin. The illusion of acne getting better in the sun is simply that a slightly sunburned face does not show red bumps as much as a lighter toned face. The sun can actually make acne worse, because it causes more of the skin cells to die. These in turn can clog up pores, causing zits.

5. People with acne should avoid using a moisturizer. Myth. This may have been true at one time, but there are a wide variety of products on the market these days that keep the skin moisturized without clogging the pores. Look for the term "noncomedogenic" on the label. And don't forget to look for products that contain a sunscreen.

6. If chocolate and fried foods don't cause acne, it must not matter what I eat. Myth. Nutritious, healthy foods contribute to the overall health of the body, including the skin.

7. Stress causes acne. To some extent this is true, but there is more to the equation. Stress causes an increase in the substance cortisol in the body. Cortisol causes the skin to secrete more natural oil, which is known as sebum. This extra oil can combine with dead skin cells to clog the pores and cause acne.

8. Women get acne sometimes because of hormones. True. Hormones exhibit a wide range of effects on the whole body, and that PMS-related zit you always seem to get is not a figment of your imagination.

Acne is no fun, but it can be treated. Know the facts about your face!

How To Find Pimple Treatments

Zit. It is the vilest thing you can ever see when you wake up in the morning. Talk about an extension of a bad dream, huh? There is nothing worse than seeing that big fat lump called pimple on your nose. It's like getting up on the wrong side of the bed every single day that persistent and angry red zit is present. From there, everything goes downhill. Admit it or not, having a pimple ruins your day. It doesn't help knowing that 8 out of 10 people have the same problem as you, either. Acne can be a very personal issue. So you start that battle against acne. But what weapons do you have? There are countless medications available in the market in every form possible - creams, gels, soaps, toners - but how do you choose one that will surely end your problem with pimples? The easiest way is to consult with a professional. A dermatologist will give you prescriptions and some tips to alleviate the problem.

However, he or she can only do so much, and, let's face it, there are people who have gone to a dermatologist or two (or more, come to think of that) but it still persists. It can be said that dermatologists may come and go, but the zit may stay forever. But you will not have that, no sir! You can take the matter in your own hands and beat the enemy. First, do some research. Scour the web for articles on the causes of acne. With the wealth of information online, you are sure to find all the details you need. Second, find out the different medications and pimple treatment methods and learn more about them – Benzoyl Peroxide, Tretinoin, Salicylic Acid and accutane. Read about the different types of skin, too, and find out which type you have. Do you have normal, dry, oily or sensitive skin? Are you allergic to certain medications or chemicals? You have to know your skin in order for you to best judge which among the treatments you have researched on will best suit you and help beat that stubborn zit once and for all.

Thank heavens for technology and dermatological advancement. Improvement and breakthroughs are being achieved in the field of dermatology everyday, and the information you need is within your reach through the internet. Also, don’t forget that proper diet and healthy lifestyle can also help you in getting rid of your acne. Nutrition, hygiene and proper rest work hand-in-hand with medications. Just remember, pimple treatment does not happen over night. Some medications take about two weeks. It may take a little time, but everything will be worth it.

How to Prevent Adult Acne Destroying Your Life

Acne is usually thought to be a problem mainly affecting teenagers, but this trend is changing. Adult acne is a condition that is on the rise. Some have suggested the rise in this malady has been caused by such modern-day circumstances as air pollution and junk food. Whatever the cause, adult acne can cause untold grief and discouragement for those who are afflicted with it.Improving your diet is one of the first lines of defense you can take if you are trying to keep acne from destroying your adult life. We seem to grow immune to dietary advice the more we hear it. We all know we should watch fats and sugars, and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. Yet we have a hard time implementing these changes. Do it for your face next time!

One superfood you should add to your diet is flaxseed meal. This good tasting addition to soups and salads contains a wide range of healthy nutrients including essential fatty acids and lignans. Lignans are phytoestrogens that help stabilize women's hormones. Since adult acne is more prevalent in women, and since it can be aggravated by hormonal fluctuations, the lignans can help. The essential fatty acids work as anti-inflammatory agents.

Current topical treatments for adult acne include benzoyl peroxide and acid peels. Mild cases can be treated with over the counter products, while severe cases may need prescription medications containing these ingredients. Benzoyl peroxide works by killing the bacteria that cause acne. The acid peels can be uncomfortable, but they remove the outer layer of skin so that other medications can get deep into the pores.

Sometimes a dermatologist will prescribe a course of antibiotics to fight inflamed acne. It's always a good idea to take acidophilus or eat yogurt when you have to take antibiotics, because the medication will kill the favorable bacteria in your digestive tract as well as the unfavorable ones that are causing the acne.

You should wash your face no more than twice a day. Use a gentle cleanser and a gentle touch. Don't scrub it with rough textured pads or cloths like you may have done when you were a teenager. Your skin is much drier and more delicate now. Do be sure to remove your make-up at night, and cleanse your face of perspiration after you work out.

The sun can actually make acne worse, although many people seem to think getting a tan helps. A steam facial, on the other hand, with or without herbs added, can help the pores to open. Many skin-friendly herbs can be made into a healing tea that can be used for gently cleansing the skin. Some good herbs for the skin include great burdock root, yarrow, marshmallow, and calendula.

Tea tree oil is healing for skin ailments, but can be harsh. Try to find a product that contains less than 35 percent tea tree oil to get the healing benefit without the harshness. Vitamin E oil is another healing ingredient to look for.

In addition to eating right and using safe, effective skincare products, it's always smart to keep an upbeat, confident attitude. Whatever physical ailment a person has to contend with, discouragement can only make it worse.

5 Simple Tips To Prevent Acne Breakouts

Acne can be an embarrassing affliction and often times you have a breakout at the worst possible moment like when you are going out on a date or have an important meeting to attend. While there is no known cure for acne there are some simple strategies that you can do to help prevent acne breakouts. 1. Use a gentle face cleanser. No a cleanser is not soap. Soap can dry and irritate the skin which can lead to breakouts which you hardly want. Gentle is the keyword here so use a gentle cleanser twice daily without scrubbing or hard rubbing. A good cleaning routine can help keep your pores clear and clean. If you think that cleaning your face more often will mean it will be cleaner your wrong. Cleaning your face too often can cause more irritation and breakouts so be patient if you are currently facing a breakout as more cleaning won't clear your skin quicker. When washing your face it is a good idea to use warm water to rinse.

2. You have probably heard this a million times before from your parents but don't pop, pinch or squeeze your pimples. While you want to get rid of the visible signs of your acne as quickly as possible popping them or squeezing them isn't going to do you or your skin any long term good. Not only can it lead to scarring which can be just as worse as having breakouts but it can also irritate your skin leading to further breakouts and the cycle begins again. If you have the urge to pick or squeeze your pimples the simple answer is don't.

3. Use medication. If you are suffering from regular acne breakouts and the regular acne treatments you find at the local drug store not helping then you will want to consider seeking medical advice. Doctors will be able to assess your acne condition and prescribe suitable acne medication ranging from topical solutions to anti-bacterial drugs. Doctors can also refer you to a dermatologist which can work with you to prevent acne breakouts.

4. Use sun protection at all times. With the use of medication to help control your acne you are going to be susceptible to the sun and be more sensitive then usual. You will want to always put on a good quality sunscreen before leaving home and to reapply during the day to help protect your skin. When picking a sunscreen look for ones that are oil free for sensitive skins. Wear a hat whenever possible to help shield your face from direct sun exposure and avoid being in the sun for extended periods like at the beach or sitting in the park. There are myths that suggest sun exposure can help reduce your acne breakouts, as far as medical evidence goes there is no supporting study to suggest that sun exposure has any links to the reduction of acne and at worse may even lead to increasing your likelihood of skin cancer so don't risk it.

5. Exercise regularly. You should be trying to exercise regularly each week anyway for overall health and vitality but exercise can also assist with reducing your acne breakouts. Exercise has long been known to help reduce stress and anxiety and this will help reduce acne as one of the causes can often be due to heightened stress levels. Exercising also serves to help cleanse your pores through sweating but you need ensure that you wipe of excess sweat and try to have a shower after strenuous exercise.

Menopause-Related Acne

Menopause has many interesting, seemingly unrelated symptoms. Women can experience any combination of mood swings, insomnia, hot flashes, extreme night sweats, achy joints, headaches, irritability, anxiety, trouble concentrating, and even acne. Some women avoid menopause-induced acne, but for at least one in ten menopause sufferers, pimples and blemishes are a genuine problem. Some women have avoided pimples since they were teenagers, yet suddenly the have a face full of them. The truth is, though, teens and menopausal women have a number of things in common. Acne is typically a result of hormone swings, which occurs extensively throughout puberty and menopause. It can be very frustrating for women to endure the added embarassment of blemishes when they're struggling to deal with all of the other symptoms of menopause. Menopausal acne occurs for much the same reason that acne occurs during any other life stage. The skin contains millions of sebaceous glands. These glands produce oil, scientifically termed sebum. Skin cells are constantly regenerated. Old ones die, are sloughed off and quickly replaced. When body hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA run rampant, the sebaceous glands become sensitive and start producing more sebum than necessary. More skin cells begin to die. As a result, not only do you have a surplus of facial oil, you also have a surplus of dead skin cells. Your body cannot rid itself of the unwanted oil and dead cells fast enough. Facial skin follicles get clogged with oil and dead cells.

White heads occur as a result of bacteria. Excess sebum builds up under the skin, naturally-occuring bacteria and the oil combine, creating an inflamed area filled with white puss. Blackheads also occur as a result of the combining of bacteria and oil with the addition of air that has leaked in. As a result, the material caught in the pore turns black. Menopausal acne identical to other acne, however. Both the follicles and sebaceous glands on the face contain an enzyme. This particular enzyme can turn estrogen into the hormone androgen testosterone. This has the ability to increase oil production even further. This leads to even more breakouts than a woman probably had as a teenager.

Menopausal acne can be extremely frustrating. There are, however, ways to alleviate it. Begin by examining your diet. It is important to eat foods that are high in fiber and calcium. It is also recommended to cut back on your fat and carbohydrate intake. Carbohydrates can turn insulin into androgen testosterone. This androgen too can increase the skin's sebum production. Additionally, you might want ensure that you are consuming eight to ten glasses of water each day.

In addition to dietary changes, you might want to consider the addition of dietary supplements. There are so many widely-available herbs vitamins, and minerals that can help alleviate the body's excess oil production. Studies suggest that it is beneficial to add Vitamin B and Vitamin C to your diet. In addition to diet and supplements, you should cleanse your skin a minimum of twice daily. Regular exfoliation rids the skin of those dead cells. Also, it is beneficial to use a toner to close open pores.

How To Treat Severe Acne?

Desperate situations need desperate remedies! Such is the call of situation when you receive severe acne on your face, neck or bottom. But then, to treat severe acne you need to learn various basic and medical aspects of this problem.

The initial symptoms for all the three types of acne that is mild, moderate and severe acne including blackheads, whiteheads, under skin cysts and pimples, are all the same. The question is how long these unwanted and uninvited guests stay on with you. That too on the prominent part of your face!

Sometimes they may stay on for months, and cause lots of anxieties, besides expenses on treatment! And when they leave, they leave the scars on your face. Many of these scars are permanent and difficult to remove! So, your psychological suffering may continue for months together. Or say, until the scars disappear!

So, the main problem is how to carry on with the damage control exercise, in case of severe attack of acne? The emphasis is on cleanliness. Dirt and oil are the enemies of the skin at this stage. Wash the face two times a day, with a cleanser and hydrogen peroxide. Toxic materials must not find a repository in the skin cells. The causes of your acne may lie elsewhere, but this is one of the most important preliminary steps to control the severity of acne.

Next, your eating habits require a review. Drink lots of water. Your body deserves a thorough flush out at this stage. The chances of infection must be met resolutely. Along with the medication, your consultation with the dermatologist needs to be on a regular basis.

The severe cases of acne require oral antibiotics. Tetracycline and erythromycin are recommended in such cases. Even the best of medications may not give immediate results in the case of severe acne. It may take some months before the severity of acne is brought under control. One vitamin A related drug Isotretinoin has shown the results in this case. For women, hormonal therapies are also used to cure such acne. In most severe cases, Corticosteriod, a strong anti-inflammatory substance is prescribed by the doctors.

Though, the medication may vary from individual to individual. It depends upon so many variable factors such as age of the individual, the skin type etc apart from fixed factors.

Wrong diet and stress are the contributing factors for increase in the severity of acne. But they are not the be-all and the end-all of the problem. But remember, foods that are unfriendly to the healthy growth of your skin, are friendly to the growth of acne.

Another form of treatment for severe acne is laser therapy. So far the Bluelight Therapy meets with the approval of Federal Drug Administration for treating acne. The treatment demands its time. It lasts for 8 sessions, each one lasting for 15 minutes.

Is There Anything Like The Best Acne Treatment For Rosacea?

Rosacea is not a rosy state of affairs for your face. It has the appearance of bad acne. It normally selects cheeks, the best part of your face, for its unpleasant operation. You have severe redness and soaring of the skin. Mouth and forehead are the other favorite spots for rosacea. Even the best of acne treatments prescribed can not assure you of a permanent rosacea cure. This is another pro-women disease. It attacks women more than the men. Normally it visits you after the age of 30, but this is not the thumb rule. It can surprise you at any time. Moreover this skin culprit is hereditary in nature.

Since its presence is very strong, visible and prominent, it may lead you to an awkward situation. There is no definite cure for rosacea. But several treatment options can be tried. So always take a final decision about the treatment in consultation with your dermatologist only.

Correct diagnosis in suspected case of rosacea is necessary, to find out whether it is actually rosacea. If it actually is, the dermatologist will decide the line of treatment suitable to the type of your rosacea attack.

Till date, pulsed light technology or laser technology is considered as the best treatment for rosacea. Rosacea causes redness of the skin. Laser heats the skin to the level that reduces or eliminates the redness. Most of the over the counter products do not go well with its treatment. So the best person to decide upon the right rosacea treatment for you is your dermatologist.

What is agonizing about rosacea is that it appears not as one to one cyst. It is characterized by reddish discoloration of the facial skin, the targeted areas being cheeks, nose and the forehead.

Since it targets the fair-skinned people more, its presence is prominently exhibited. Along with rosacea, pimples too may make their presence, but no whiteheads or blackheads will appear. Some of the implications of rosacea are frightening.

Initially, redness comes and goes, as if rosacea is doing rehearsals. Treat it at this stage itself, otherwise you are inviting more damage to your facial skin. Puffy cheeks and disfigurement of the nose are not uncommon, if you neglect the treatment.

In such a situation, cosmetic surgery is the only alternative. Severe cases of rosacea can even impair your vision. You are lucky, if your dermatologist is able to identify the root cause of your rosacea condition, in the first stage of attack. This is only possible when you report to your dermatologist in the first stage of its attack. So don?t keep sitting to ignore the red soars on your cheeks.

How Does Acne Attack Your Liver?

Acne is an opportunistic fighter. It hits you when you?re already down. It usually doesn?t lead the charge; but it shows up after a long battle has been fought. When Acne does show up, it?s the sign of an already compromised liver. Acne assaults the liver, by piggybacking on a two-pronged strategy, toxins and hormones.

Acne and Toxins

This avenue of attack shows how good an opportunistic enemy acne is. Daily we battle exhaust fumes, smoke, and all kinds of pesticides in the food we eat. Also, metals in the water we drink, and other toxic agents. The liver must filter out this garbage.

The constant onslaught frustrates and slows down the liver. Acne then quietly slips in. Do you get constipated? Does your acne appear after your constipation has gone?

How about a skin rash? When you?ve finally gotten rid of your rash, up pops acne. Has this ever happened to you? This shows the nature of acne?opportunistic! It comes after a battle has already been waged. Be vigilant! Know your body.

Acne and Hormones.

Hormones out of whack are a major cause of acne. Regulating hormones is a function of the liver. Too many hormones in the system results in over-abundance of oil production in the skin.

This leads to clogged pores resulting in acne. The groundwork for acne has been laid by a hormonal imbalance. Acne loves to piggyback.

Function of the Liver

The liver functions along these lines. The food you eat is broken down by your stomach acids. The blood in your stomach is like a train. It picks up and carries the food throughout your body. Before your food goes on that train ride though, it must be screened.

That?s were your liver comes in.

It screens the baggage (food/blood) . Then the baggage passes through the liver check point. As it passes through, it is stamped approved by a bile marker. Bile assists with further breakdown for easier digestion and absorption. The nutrient-rich blood is then sent on its way.

Conclusion

Acne is frustrating. We can be diligent and watch for constipation and other known acne forerunners. But then, out of the blue, acne appears.

One reason for its sudden appearance could be an over abundance of hormones racing around in your system. These hormones may not present a trigger. So you believe that your acne came from out of nowhere. That?s the frustrating part.

We can win the battle though. Our fight is an internal fight. Simply put, to hold off acne, we need a strong liver.
